Solar Compounds Corporation was founded in 1920 in Linden, New Jersey. Until 1940, Solar manufactured varnishes for the wire finishing industry. In the years that followed, Solar Compounds expanded its capabilities, developing and manufacturing high performance polymers for industrial, military, and commercial wire and cable manufacturers.
Today, operations consist of the large-scale production of sealants, adhesives and coating compounds for the worldwide wire and cable industry. In addition to being a key supplier to the wire and cable industry, Solar Compounds Corporation has developed into a major supplier of advanced technology epoxy and silicone electrical/electronic potting and encapsulating compounds for a broad range of electrical devices used in automotive and appliance applications. In addition, Solar produces an extensive product range of high performance adhesives for a wide variety of industrial adhesive applications.
Today, Solar’s corporate offices, R&D laboratories and manufacturing facilities occupy more than 5 acres. Solar has become a major worldwide supplier of an expanded product line of advanced technology polymers to a broad range of industries.
Solarite wire and cable polymer
technologies are extensive and include; waxes, epoxies, RTV silicones,
specialty asphalts, rubber modified asphalts, butyl rubber sealants,
solvent based coatings, water based coatings, hydrocarbon resins, hot
melt adhesives and sealants.
Solar has continually expanded its product line to include high performance epoxy, silicone and polyurethane polymers for the electrical potting and encapsulation of electrical devices and electronic components, and a broad range of 2-component epoxy adhesives.
Potting compounds are pourable insulating resins
(epoxies, silicones, urethanes and hybrids) that are cast into cavities
containing electronic components to insulate, protect, and hold them in
place. These polymers function to protect costly and delicate components
from shock and vibration and prevent premature failure due to high
operating temperatures.
Solar potting and encapsulating compounds are formulated for the demanding high performance requirements of the electrical and electronic industries for such applications as the potting of HID electronic ballasts, capacitors, power supplies, relays and other devices with high heat dissipation requirements. Solar FR (Flame Retardant) and HTC (High Thermal Conductivity) products provide higher flame retardancy, increased high-voltage insulating characteristics and improved thermal management over currently available materials. Solar EP Series (Electrical Potting) products significantly reduce the operating temperature of potted internal components - thus extending the life of electrical devices.
Solar Compounds EA
Series (Epoxy Adhesives) offer superior bonding; thus providing improved
performance and durability to filters,
separators and to sporting equipment such as skis, snowboards, and golf
clubs…to striking tools such as hammers and axes…and to grinding wheels,
composite panels, laminated shims, bolt anchors, appliances, and
precision tables.
Advanced technology EA Series epoxy structural adhesives provide exceptional strength even after prolonged exposure to high temperatures, yet remain flexible at low temperatures. Solar adhesives offer better adhesion to dissimilar surfaces compared to currently available materials. Examples of substrate compatibilities include wood, metals such as Aluminum, Stainless Steel, Copper, and Brass, and plastics including ABS, polycarbonate and fiberglass. Solar adhesives have numerous applications in automotive, aerospace, electrical and OEM applications.
